A Big Change for the Garden and the Reluctant Gardener

There's a big change coming my way. My husband and I are moving to Dallas, Texas!
My health has been shaky lately, so the warm, dry air of Texas will be good for me. It also means that when my health improves, I can finally get back to my garden. Over the winter, while I was really ill, my garden suffered. I lost both of my orchids, my cactus garden, a plumeria cutting from Hawaii and 3 of my 4 air plants.

Right now my large trellis bamboo is suffering due to bad water and it outgrew the pot. The plumeria "Star White" may have got stem rot, it has definitely suffered, but it is still trying to grow leaves. It is in need for TLC.

All the cacti have died. I am still trying to find out if they died of cold or if my well-intention hubby over watered them to try and help me out while I was sick.

All the same, JJ has already sprung leafs and is ready for spring. She's really showing off to the other plumeria and her ability to handle the cold weather of Indiana. While the other plumeria dropped all of their leaves for the winter, JJ kept on a couple to collect some low winter sunlight through our dinning room window. And by March, she was well on her way to full head again,

From all that I've read, plumerias grow very well in Texas. Most locals say they grow better in southern Texas, around the Gulf (Houstan area) and even the Plumeria Society is located there. But the hot, humid air of northern Texas is going to be a relieved change for my little plummies that have suffered through the bitter winters of Indianapolis.

So here's to some wonderful and creative gardening and now onward to exciting and new challenges. I am very exited to have the chance to grow some more of the "tropical" plants that I have always enjoyed. Bryan has already asked me to start growing an orange tree and I have to admit, I am looking forward to the challenge.

Wish me luck!
