Meet Medusa
I've been building a large terrarium for some time now. It was originally meant to be beach themed but I added some of the extra materials I had left over from building the hanging terrariums. So the new open bowl terrarium was a mixture of sand, starfish, reindeer moss, and some magenta dyed Spanish mosses, along with a few extra polished glass pebbles.
Despite all of this prepping, I didn't have any plants to actually put into the new terrarium. I looked for succulents and air plants, but nothing really sparked my fancy.
Today, I was out shopping for birthday gifts for my niece Zanea, and I happened to be in the wrong lane to turn on a busy street, so I thought I'd just turn up a side road, come back around to the light. Well, on the side street was a never nice plant shop called Habig Garden Shop in Nora. The shop's unusual location caught me by surprise. It's a quaint cottage among strip malls and large retail stores. At first glance, it feels a bit like you're looking upon a fairy garden lost amongst the hubbub of city life.
I was intrigued to see a sign for their "End of Summer Sale" - a sad reminder but also a chance to catch some last minute deals. Their outdoors stock was obviously depleted due to the weather and season. They were making up for the seasonal change with plenty of pumpkins and gourds. As well, they were putting together what appeared to be a Christmas section behind the cottage.
Inside, at this time of the year, is where the real magic was happening. They had a very creative selection of glass terrariums (both pre-made as well as all the tools to DIY), bonsai, fairy garden decorations, bird feeder, and indoor plants. What really caught my attention was their really fun and varied collection of air plants. I fell fast a large and superb Medusa tillandsia. It was just the right plant I was looking for to finish my project! And here's the final product...
