Replanting "JJ"
JJ's nursery pot was looking too small lately, and once she was pulled out, I can absolutely see how badly she needed to be replanted. So I started to planning.
The first step was finding a pot light enough to move around since I moved the plants inside for the winter and out of heavy rain during stormy weather. I surprising found the perfect pot at Walmart for a decent price. It was a resin pot in teal and aqua. The best part about it being resin, plastic-like material means that I was able to drill my own drainage holes. I drilled about 12-14 holes. To encourage the best possible drainage, I also placed about an inch of gravel in the bottom of the pot. I tested the holes and the gravel before I started planting to make sure it was working freely and not getting plugged up. It worked like a charm.
At this point, it was time to mix my soil. I did a fair bit of research on the best potting soils for plumeria. This was the clearest and best example of mixing your own soil I found:
And here's my before and after mixes:
Before mixing in the perlite
5 lbs of Miracle grow potting soil and 1 1/2 bags of Perlite
My finished plumeria mix
It may seem like a lot but I currently have 2 more plumeria I'm growing, I just ordered a few more plumeria from Jungle Jack's, and I'm getting cuttings from Hawaii when a friend goes on vacation, so I know I'll be needing this mix a lot in the near future.
After I got JJ seated into her new pot, I added a touch of sand on the top to add some flair.
Just finished and still inside
I was very happy with the finished product. I couldn't wait to put her back outside to enjoy the sun and heat, as well as the admiring looks I get from my neighbors when they see my happy plants. Hopefully this new pot will be great for not only summer time but indoor winters.
A happy JJ enjoy the hot weather and her new home!
